likely France, early 1900s. Hardcover. Very Good+. Alligator in metal-framed boards, with heavy fore-edge clasp (though the album is way too full to dream of closing), all edges marbled, inside gilt dentelles; 6.5 x 8 inches; contains 25 heavy cardstock leaves, with either one or two inserts on the recto and verso, accomodating cabinet cards and cartes-de-visite. Nearly full, with just a few empty inserts, for a grand total of 10 cabinet cards and 75 cartes-de-visite (sepia and b/w albumen and silver gelatin prints). Portraits of men (many of them mustachioed), women (a few with exposed shoulders, oh my!), and children -- mostly in formal or military dress, plus one religious (a bishop?), and a few half-nekkid babies. Most of the images seem to be produced in France, though at least two are from Russia (including one cabinet card showing a boy in uniform). A few of the inserts are torn, and some of the leaves are a bit dust-smudged, but the prints are in excellent condition overall, aside from a few instances of light foxing, the majority are remarkably nice and bright.
