TIMOTHY TRIM'S CLOCK BOOK

  • Detroit: Curtis Advertising Co, 1909
Detroit: Curtis Advertising Co, 1909. Near fine.. First edition of this delightful interactive clock book, in which Umpty Umpt (the son-in-law of Father Time) teaches children how to tell time with a moveable clock face. The text in verse offers a fun way to teach telling time. Each page of text faces a wonderful full color illustration in the style of Denslow. In a 1914 issue of HOME PROGRESS, a mother attested to the usefulness of the CLOCK BOOK: from its "jingle verses," her daughter learned what the hand positions on the clock face meant "fairly well" -though when she was promised a watch as a reward when "she became much more of an adept" (793).

A lovely copy of a charming educational novelty. 7.25'' x 10''. Original three-color pictorial boards with circular cut-out to front, with clock face including moveable metal hands mounted to inner rear board and protruding through cut-out. Illustrated in three colors. [16] pages, each leaf with a circular cut-out. Ink gift inscription dated year of publication to front pastedown; pencil name next to inscription. Light rubbing and soil to boards.
