Perry McDonough Collins (1813-1900) was the visionary behind the Russian-American Telegraph of 1865–1867. The failed venture aimed to connect America to Europe by telegraph via the Bering Strait. He was the first American to journey through Siberia and down the 2,690-mile Amur River to the Pacific Ocean. The book presents an interesting account of Russian–American relations in the mid-nineteenth century.
