Small compendium by the religious historian Hannah Adams (1755-1831) divided into two parts, the first "containing sketches of the lives of the eminent laymen, who have written in defence of the Christian religion"; the second "containing extracts from their writings." The work concludes with five pages of subscribers, among them the author's distant cousins former and future presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams, as well as Abigail Adams. Approximately half of the subscribers listed are women.
