Mauritz Hallgren (1899 - 1956) was an editor, author, journalist, and a leading liberal public figure. He was also a staunch supporter of loyalists to the Spanish Republic in the Spanish Civil War and a member of the Communist Party USA. He would be remembered for publicly resigning as a member of the American Committee for the Defense of Leon Trotsky, stating that the committee had "become an instrument of the Trotskyists for political intervention against the Soviet Union." The current pamphlet was his resignation letter.
