By Seuss, Dr. (Geisel, Theodore Seuss)
New York: Random House, 1954 . Illustrated in color by Dr. Seuss. First edition, first printing, with a list of nine books to recto of rear free endpaper titled "Other books by Dr. Seuss"; in its first issue dust jacket, with "250/250" to front flap and "full ear" graphic to rear panel. Publisher's red pictorial boards, with illustration of Horton peeking out of blue grass to front board, lettered in white, and pictorial endpapers; in its matching original dust jacket. Near fine book, with some wear to spine ends, and light rubbing to bottom edges of boards; very good unclipped dust jacket, with heavy fading to spine, and some dust-soiling to panels. Overall, a great copy with clean pages. In this classic Dr. Seuss title, Horton the elephant discovers a speck of dust that is home to the entire town of Whoville. Horton vows to protect the speck, but a skeptical "sour" kangaroo and a group of monkeys called the Wickersham Brothers attempt to destroy it. In the end, the town of Whoville, with the last-minute help of a shirking member, makes enough noise to be heard by the kangaroo, and all ends well. Throughout the story, Seuss repeats the meaningful moral phrase, "A person's a person, no matter how small." . First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Dust Jacket Included. Illus. by Dr. Seuss.
