New York: Macaulay Co, 1933. Hardcover. 256p., no statement of printing, copyright page states 1933 as called for in Verkler & Zempel, mild shelfwear and darkening to spine, bookplate, otherwise a very good first edition hardcover bound in lavender-gray cloth with dark blue titles on front cover and spine. Coates' second novel, an experimental study of a man who has left New York City for the countryside at the beginning of the Great Depression and finds himself cast adrift. We have seen two variants of this book, one in dark blue cloth with red titles and from Larry McMurtry's collection a copy bound like this copy.
