25 Cents for Levy's Defense

Cleveland, OH: Ghost Press, 1967. First Edition. Near Fine. First edition. One of 150 copies. Folded sheet with blue and white silkscreen portrait of D. A. Levy with an additional silkscreen mounted inside. Near Fine with light toning, edge wear, and a few spots of foxing to covers; mounted interior silkscreen on a notecard detached but present. A scarce folded broadside printed for the legal defense of D. A. Levy. As part of a broader campaign of harassment by the Cleveland Police's "Red Squad" he was indicted for distributing allegedly obscene poetry to minors in 1966 and was yet again arrested in 1967. The case gathered much attention and prompted (truncated) a reading on May 14, 1967, on the Case Institute of Technology campus which featured Allen Ginsberg, Tuli Kupferberg and the Fugs. 5 copies located at OCLC.
