Istanbul ve Boğaziçi is a monumental study of Istanbul's Byzantine and Ottoman heritage. Mehmed Ziya (1866-1930), Ottoman historian and preservationist, is best remembered for his extensive documentation of Istanbul's architectural and cultural heritage. The work is richly illustrated with rare photographs captured by Ziya himself during his work with the Eski Eserler Encümeni, alongside earlier engravings and plans.

The first volume provides an in-depth exploration of Istanbul's historical landmarks, natural beauty, and cultural significance. It features detailed descriptions of mosques, palaces, fountains, and other monuments, as well as notes on Ottoman and Byzantine inscriptions, gravestones, and architectural details. A second volume was planned but was never completed or published.

Mehmed Ziya organized commemorative events, known as "İhtifalci," celebrating key historical figures and moments in Turkish history, believing in the power of history to foster national pride. This work remains an essential resource for historians, architects, and cultural scholars alike. Ozege 8283
