1882 FOLIO LITHOGRAPHIC PLATES OF HUMAN MALFORMATIONS.

Two 37x 47 cm folio heavy card folders, black cloth corners and spines, printed paper title labels to covers, containing a total of 49 unbound lithographed plates containing over 750 subjects. Vol. 1 containing Plates I - XXIII, Vol. 2 containing Plates XXIV - XLIX TOGETHER WITH 16 x 24 cm hardcover text volume, marbled paper covers, black cloth spine with contemporary autograph ink title label, i-xv, 297 pp. Light soiling and wear to covers and edges of plates, 3 cm closed tear with clear tape repair to edge of Plate 1, remaining plates intact; light wear to covers of text volume, light browning to pages, unmarked. Very good in custom archival mylar covers. GERMAN LANGUAGE.

JOHANN FRIEDRICH AHLFELD (1843 – 1929) was a German obstetrician and gynecologist. From 1863 to 1867 he studied medicine at the universities of Greifswald and Leipzig, where he was a pupil of Carl Siegmund Franz Crede. In 1873 he obtained his habilitation for obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Leipzig, and in 1877 attained the title of associate professor. In 1881 he became a full professor at the University of Giessen, then two years later relocated to Marburg as director of the university Frauenklinik and school for midwives.
