A Biographical Memoir of the Late Commodore Joshua Barney.

Boston: Gray and Bowen, 1832. An early and detailed biography of a universally respected figure on whom not much has been written, this work is a major source. Barney served as master's mate in the "Hornet" when she he took part in Commodore Esek Hopkins's raid on New Providence. Subsequently aboard "Wasp" leading to his promotion to the rank of lieutenant for gallantry in the action against the British brig "Betsey." He was taken prisoner and exchanged several times.
