From its establishment in 1794 to the present time; including the wars with France, and with Tripoli, the late War with Great Britain, and with Algiers. As with Bowens work of the same year the plates (depicting now-legendary battles) are a source of American decorative motifs. Howes K-135. Moebs 67. Bound in full contemporary mottled calf, rebacked to match with red leather label. Water stain at top of engraved and printed title pages and frontispiece, which disappears by the first page of text. Pages tanned with some foxing. A good copy of a book that has become quite scarce.. 21.5 cm. viii, (9)-322 pp. b/w plates, engraved title page
