Boston, Massachusetts: J.M. Whittemore & Co, 1861. Very good. Light toning. One small hole to one of the large labels. Adhesive to verso of smaller pieces.. J.M. Whittemore & Co. was a job printer and publisher known for producing handsome and patriotic covers (illustrated envelopes) with traditional American iconography such as the American flag, Columbia, and military symbolism, often printed in red and blue. The present group of ephemera includes two printed labels that would have been affixed to albums, that people would have kept to collect patriotic covers in. each measures 7.75" by 4.75", and has imagery of the flag and Columbia. The other three items here are three proofs/samples of illustrations by Whittemore, the largest measuring approx. 3.5" by 1.5". One shows an eagle atop an American flag, and the other two show a soldier with musket and flag.
