[4], 246 pp., illustrated with 3 folding plates of which 1 is hand-coloured. 8vo, 143 x 85 mm., bound in contemporary half morocco. Paris: Librairie Encyclopédique de Roret, 1856. A manual for colourists, published as part of the Encyclopedie Roret, which was a series of approximately 300 manuals on all aspects of the arts and sciences published throughout the nineteenth century. This one was first published in 1840, and this is its final enlarged form. A rare little book, because most copies were presumably used to pieces. OCLC lists only 9 copies of which only 3 of which are in the US. Some staining and browning, and damage to the blank margin of the folding plate, but still an acceptable copy.
