Entirely in German [12.5x9.5in], 142 pp., [2] index with color fold out chart of medal awards, extensively illustrated with color and black-white mounted original photographs in text, six full page black and white image plates; Cobalt Blue cloth with black lettering and gilt Olympic ring symbol on front, all edges trimmed, lacks slipcase; Some shelf wear with soiling and several small spots to covers, age toning to edges of text with several small stain spots to foredge, no prior owner marks. The 1932 Winter and Summer Olympics were held in the United States during (truncated) the worldwide Great Depression. Many nations could not afford to send teams and only 37 countries completed in the summer games in Los Angeles, California. The Winter Olympics were held earlier in 1932 in Lake Placid, New York for the first time outside of Europe. Only 17 countries participated in the Winter Olympics.

This book focuses on the German participation in both the Winter and Summer games and highlights their achievements. This was the final year of the old Weimar Republic before Adolf Hitler was appointed as Chancellor in January 1933 by President Hindenburg. Hitler then made sweeping changes to the election process, control of government agencies with a broad reaching Enabling Act and by the end of the year, the republic was no more. The 1936 Summer Olympics was held in Berlin and became a showcase for Germany's dramatic changes to Germany's government and society by Hitler and the Nazi party. The next two Olympic games (1940 and 1944) were canceled due to the outbreak of World War II and restarted with the London 1948 games. (Inventory #: 14322)
