Habit Forming Drugs Facts and Fallacies [cover title]

Houston, 1910. Near fine.. 8pp. Original printed self wrappers, stapled. Minimal wear, small ink spots on cover. Unrecorded promotional pamphlet for a drug addiction sanitarium in Houston, Texas, located at its first location at 1316 Boulevard in the Heights. The clinic was managed by Dr. Edward Purdy, and specifically aimed at opiate addiction, though Purdy also devotes a paragraph to "Cannabis Indica, Indian Hemp, Hashish," noting that "Cannabis Indica, as we have it in this country, is positively not a habit-forming drug. I challenge anyone to show to the contrary. However, it has very definite therapeutic qualities -- it being the most powerful mental (truncated) stimulant at our command -- but a habit-former -- NEVER!" Purdy's sanitarium is noted at this Boulevard address in Houston newspapers between 1906 and 1910; later instances put the sanitarium at 1516 Ovid.
