Autographed Edition. Limited to 100 numbered copies, signed by Beatrix Potter, this being number 14. This is the first edition, precedeing the English edition which was not signed. Small quarto (8 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches; 209 x 159 mm.). 225, [3, blank] pp. Six inserted color plates, twenty full-page illustrations in black and white, and forty-two vignette illustrations in black and white.

Original dark green cloth with color pictorial label on front cover. Spine lettered in gilt. Some very (truncated) minor rubbing to back board. Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown as well as evidence of another bookplate removed. A catalog listing tipped on on blank recto of the frontispiece. Overall a near fine copy of this notoriously rare book.

This edition contains a limitation leaf inserted after the title-page bearing the following statement: “The autographed edition of this book is limited to one hundred copies, none of which will be offered for sale. This copy is number 14. It is presented with the compliments of the author.” Signed: Beatrix Potter.
