(tables) An important work, the first book to treat in detail the early collective-bargaining efforts of Hollywood film industry workers, "a new chapter in the annals of American organized labor," which began in the mid-1920s, quickly picked up steam (the industry's first significant reaction/pushback came with the formation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1927), and came to fruition in the early New Deal years through the formative (truncated) stuggles of the Screen Writers Guild, the Screen Actors Guild, and the Screen Directors Guild.
