San Francisco: Robert D. Reed Publishers. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. (c.2000). First Edition. Hardcover. [nice copy with no discernible shelfwear, just a tiny bit of soiling on the front endpaper; the jacket shows a little bit of surface rubbing, minor wrinkling at top of front panel]. Fantasy/crime thriller set in Los Angeles (or, as it ought to be called in this book, Werewolf City). The plot features a couple of werewolves trying to solve a series of murders committed by their "fellow werewolves involved in the Los Angeles criminal underworld." One of the good-guy werewolves works as a dogcatcher, whose "success as an animal control officer for Los Angeles County stems from his own lycanthropic tendencies." (Ya gotta work with the hand you're dealt, I guess.) The author's jacket bio cites some of his influences: Ray Bradbury, Herman Hesse, C.S. Lewis, Tom Clancy, and Anne Rice. The narrative supposedly combines "European legend with the Native American tradition of shape-shifting." If Warren Zevon doesn't make a cameo appearance in this novel, I'm going to be very disappointed. .
