first edition Hardcover
1904 · Boston and New York
by ALDRICH, Thomas Bailey
Boston and New York: Houghton, Mifflin and Company, 1904. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. First edition. Pencil name, about fine in near very good uncommon printed dust jacket with small splits, nicks, and tears, and a chip on the front panel removing the "J" fro "Judith". An epic dramatic poem that was the basis for two films, most importantly D.W. Griffith's 1914 version, which was his first feature length film, the first of his "epics," and the film that laid the groundwork for his future spectaculars. The budget shocked the Biograph film company, and Griffith was soon let go, to the eventual benefit of all of filmdom. Exceptionally uncommon in jacket. (truncated)
