First edition, 8vo, pp. 397, [3]; text in two columns, printed in Comstock's phonetic alphabet; contemporary full sheep, black morocco label on spine; textblock upside down in binding, boards rubbed and scuffed, rear endpaper excised; good and sound. Andrew Comstock was one of a crowd of people who attempted to bring about spelling reform in the 19th century. Like many, he wanted the alphabet to more accurately represent the sounds of speech, which meant an expansion of characters. In his case most were borrowed from Greek. An earlier printing of the New Testament in Comstock's alphabet was published a year before but (truncated)
