1887 · Richmond, TX
by Majors, M[onroe]. A[lpheus]., 1864-1960
Richmond, TX, 1887. Good. 23 x 9 cm. Small piece missing from center of the check, probably from the method of cancellation. Endorsed on the back by Georgia A. Green, Sec. The Wikipedia page for Majors credits him as the founder of Lone State Medical Association while the website of the Texas State Historical Association credits a group of 15 individuals, naming only three by name -- two doctors from Galveston and a pharmacist from San Antonio. We suspect that this check was a founding check for the organization said to have been founded in 1886 but only sporadically active before 1901. Majors was born in Waco, Texas and graduated from Meharry in 1886 (truncated)
