New York: The Coward-McCann Sports Library, 1960 Preface by Walter Alston. Introduction by Mayor Norris Poulson. First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by Don Drysdale and signed by Paul Zimmerman on front free endpaper. Publisher's light blue cloth, with front board and spine stamped in black; in its original yellow, white, and blue pictorial dust jacket, with photos of eight notable Dodgers players to front and rear panels, including Walter Alston, Duke Snider, and Don Drysdale. Near fine book, with a few light marks to cloth, very light rubbing to spine ends, and a small spot of staining to fore edge of text block; very good unclipped dust jacket, with light toning to spine, light soiling to panels, and some light wear to spine ends and panel edges, including a few small closed tears. Overall, an attractive copy. In this book, Paul Zimmerman tracks the Los Angeles Dodgers' turnaround from 7th place finisher in the National League in 1958 to World Series champions in 1959. Don Drysdale spent his entire MLB career pitching for the Brooklyn/LA Dodgers. In his fantastic career, he earned nine All-Star selections, a Cy Young award (1962), and won three World Series titles (1959, 1963, and 1965). In 1968, he pitched 58 consecutive scoreless innings, which was a record until Orel Hershiser surpassed it in 1988. Drysdale was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984. Paul Zimmerman was the sports editor for the Los Angeles Times for 30 years (1939 - 1968) and received an official commendation from Los Angeles for his role in getting the Dodgers to move from Brooklyn to LA in 1957. . Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Dust Jacket Included.
