This July 30, 1965 issue of Life highlights Mickey Mantle and his physical struggles as he nears the end of his career. The featured article, written by John R. McDermott, is titled "Last Innings of Greatness" (pp. 46 - 53). Facing the first page of the article is a powerful full-page photo of Mantle throwing away his helmet in disappointment. Some other articles featured in this issue are "J.F.K., Dean Rusk and State Department," "Crisis in Greece," "Duty Overrules Justice Goldberg," and "Shirley Temple's Debutante Daughter." FROM B&B: Mickey Mantle played his entire eighteen-year career with the New York Yankees, alongside other legendary players like Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio, and Whitey Ford. Plagued by injuries throughout much of his career, Mantle nevertheless became an all-time great, winning three MVP awards (1956, 1957, 1962) and the Triple Crown in 1956. He also helped power the Yankees to seven World Series titles. Mantle was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1974 and was selected for the prestigious All-Century Team in 1999. . Signed. First Edition.
