Very good book, with a couple of small tears to cloth at rear joint of spine, protected by some clear tape, very light rubbing to spine ends, Post-it notes to front free endpaper listing signatures, and some light pink staining to p. 344; near fine unclipped dust jacket, with light toning to spine, a bit of wrinkling to spine ends, small area of light soiling to rear panel, and lightly nicked corners. Overall, a terrific collection of Yankees signatures. The New York Yankees: An Illustrated History "tells the glorious tale of the most loved - and hated - team in all of sports history. It is the story of the men and moments, of a team that has seized the imagination and won the loyalty of an entire nation." Author Donald Honig is a longtime sportswriter who has written many classic baseball books, like The 100 Greatest Baseball Players of All Time (1981) and the oral histories Baseball When the Grass was Real (1975) and Baseball Between the Lines: Baseball in the Forties and Fifties, as Told by the Men Who Played It (1976). Yogi Berra played eighteen seasons with the New York Yankees, winning an incredible ten World Series titles. Winner of three AL MVPs and recognized as one of the greatest catchers of all-time, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972. Whitey Ford played all 16 seasons of his MLB career with the Yankees (1950, 1953-1967) and won six World Series titles. Ford was selected as an All-Star ten times and holds numerous Yankees records, including career wins, shutouts, and games started. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974, along with his close friend and teammate, Mickey Mantle. Billy Martin won five World Series titles with the Yankees, four as a player (1951-1953, 1956), and one as a manager (1977). He achieved great success as a manager in the league, turning struggling teams into contenders in incredibly short periods of time. Some other notable signers include 10x All-Star and 5x World Series champion Johnny Mize, 8x All-Star and 5x World Series champion Catfish Hunter, and 10x All-Star and 4x World Series champion Enos Slaughter. .
