A Grab[horn] Bag Original Pages; Pages from Various Books Printed at The Grabhorn Press, San Francisco, 1928-1940

[San Francisco]: [Grabhorn Press], 1941. Limited Edition. Folio in a case. Near fine. One of 200 copies, folio size, with fifteen original leaves. The inimitable Grabhorn Press, a San-Francisco based print shop run by Edwin and Robert Grabhorn that produced a plethora of fine press editions, often about California history, produced this portfolio of pages from books published by the Press from the years 1928 to 1940. Per Heller & Magee, "the number of leaves included varied according to the whim of the donor, usually fifteen", as is the case with this collection.

In typically humorous Grabhorn style, the front label announces "A Grab[horn] Bag, Original Pages, Found by excavators at 642 Commercial Street, San Francisco."

Several books represented herein were featured in the Grabhorn exhibition at the American Institute of Graphic Arts in New York City.

___DESCRIPTION: Portfolio with quarter white cloth and marbled paper boards, green paper label with green ruled borders and lettering, facsimile of San Francisco view on the front paste-down endpaper, green folio with three folds on the rear paste-down endpaper, fifteen original leaves from books printed at the Grabhorn Press, plus a "title page" consisting of one sheet folded once to make four pages with a note from the Grabhorns printed in red and black; Original Old Style Italic type, French handmade paper, the portfolio is folio size (12 1/4" by 8 3/4"), one of 200 copies, unnumbered.

___CONDITION: Near fine, with clean boards, straight corners, the leaves are clean and bright with only original folds, and entirely free of prior owner markings; some toning and light creases to the green folds holding the leaves, else fine.
