First edition of Murray's only published poetry book — a touchstone in African American artistic identity, with poems spanning decades of Murray's career. The title poem for this collection was written in 1943 while Murray was the only woman-presenting person at Howard Law, and ruffled feathers by speaking out against the program's sexism. Barred from attending Harvard Law due to Murray's assigned gender at birth, Murray attended UC Berkeley, returning to the east coast to practice law upon graduation.
