Jacket fairly toned, especially along edges of outer panels and down spine, with a couple shallow chips and tears along edges. Boards are square with light bumping at corners and spine ends. Bookplate of a Raymond M. Herrick to front pastedown, with a patch of toning to half title and opposite from previously laid-in newsprint. Binding is sound and pages unmarked.

A revision of Winters' doctoral dissertation, later included with Maule's Curse and The Anatomy of Nonsense in his 1947 book The Defense of Reason.
