Glen Ellyn, Illinois: Glenbard West High School, 1964. 1964 high school yearbook of American performance artist Laurie Anderson, chronicling her junior year at Glenbard West High School in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. In addition to her class photograph, Anderson appears three times: as a member of the Helladians, “the honor society for students with outstanding artistic ability;” as the head of the “CQ (Cultural Quotient) Committee;” and as a varsity cheerleader. Anderson’s activities at Glenbard West, along with her studies at the Art Institute of Chicago and her participation in the Chicago Youth Symphony, prepared her for her future (truncated) career of artistic and musical experimentation: “New York was a city you went to alone. You didn’t go with your school friends. You came by yourself, and you started over.” (New York Times, 21 April 2017). A near-fine copy. Single volume, measuring 10.5 x 7.5 inches: 220, [2].
