It originally appeared in Paris as Education physique des jeunes filles (1835). Another English edition came out in 1838, from which the present edition is enlarged. It is unclear whether there are revisions in the text from the earlier edition, or whether the only change is the addition of plates. Treatise on Physical Education focuses on young girls' physical education, with particular attention paid to young women fulfilling "the duties of her ordination," or maintaining physical health to procreate (iv).
