First adventure (and last?) for detective Marty Cohen, "who had made Law Review at Columbia and who had his eye on the office of District Attorney," and who is described on the jacket copy as "a combination of Sherlock Holmes and Clark Gable." The pseudonymous writing (truncated) duo soon went their separate ways, Wilson as a novelist and Polonsky as a screenwriter/director whose career was eclipsed by the Hollywood blacklist. .
