Deep red cloth blocked in black and gilt with a picture of Alice, the Rabbit, the caterpillar and a boy on the upper cover, and the mock turtle serving soup on the spine. illustrated endpapers. WIth Gwynedd Hudson's twelve full color illustrations tipped-in and protected by printed tissue guards. All illustrated with two-color vignettes and chapter headings. The gilt on the upper board is a bit rubbed, the first two and last two leaves have light foxing else this is a fine, bright copy.
Hudson was a British illustrator, artist, and poster designer. Her illustrations for Alice vie with her illustrations for Peter Pan as the best of her work.
Scarce edition, not to be confused with the smaller reprint.
