Francois Claudius Compte-Calix (1813-1880) was a French painter, illustrator, and lithographer best known for his refined genre scenes and fashion illustrations, particularly those portraying elegant life in 18th- and 19th-century France. He Studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, a notable center for academic and decorative arts in the 19th century. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1840 to 1878, gaining attention for his delicate, romanticized depictions of aristocratic and bourgeois life.
