DANIEL BOONE
- New York: Harper & Brothers, 1945
New York: Harper & Brothers, 1945. Very good.. First US edition of a pivotal book in Rojankovsky's career, and a high point of early 20th-century picture book publishing. Inspired in part by Rojankovsky's childhood love of James Fenimoore Cooper books, DANIEL BOONE was meant to be a lavish vision of the American West - but for that reason, American publishers initially considered it too expensive to print: it was first brought out by Domino Press in Paris. The book's success is credited in part with revitalizing the French children's book market, and played a role in Rojankovsky landing work in the famous Père Castor series. This American edition was produced in a smaller format, leading to different changes in page layout and design. 11'' x 8.25''. Original red cloth-backed color pictorial paper boards. Illustrated by Rojankovsky with beautiful color lithographs throughout. 60 pages. Boards with rubbing and soil, wear to corners. Interior clean.
