Early Extra-Tall Postcard of the Woolworth Building

- New York: Manhattan Post Card Co, 1913
New York: Manhattan Post Card Co, 1913. Very Good. A vertical panorama from the just completed Woolworth Building, which would hold the record as the tallest building in the world from completion, in 1913, to 1930. To do it justice, only an extra-tall postcard would do, and so this postcard is 45 cm tall (or over 17 inches), 14 cm wide. It is clearly produced just after the building opened. First, the vehicles and the people that are shown at street level couldn't be from the late teens based on their dress and the style of vehicle, respectively. And the wording in the description on the back clearly implies that the building has just been finished, if not implying it has a ways to go, when it gives the estimated cost ($15 million). Even a year later the cost would not be an estimate. The word "approximately" might be used. But not "estimate". Our copy has a light dusty soiling in the margins and a few small spots of soiling on the picture itself. Their are a few dog ear creases, and one horizontal line where the postcard had been bent. One could say the card was cracked there, leaving a line. Still a Very Good copy.
