The Wanderings of Oisin and Other Poems
- London: Kegan Paul, Trench & Co, 1889
The first edition of Yeats' first collection of poetry, drawn from Irish mythology and printed in a run of just 500 copies. This copy was gifted by Yeats' proud father to Emily Thornley Stoker, sister-in-law to Dracula author Bram Stoker. Emily's husband Sir William was a surgeon of great renown, serving at different times as President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and President of the Royal Academy of Medicine. An obituary that appeared upon his death in 1912 noted his "quickness in appreciating and generosity in encouraging merit" in young men. It is not surprising to find Thornley Stoker's name linked with that of Ireland's greatest poet at the beginning of the young man's career.
