48mo (3 7/8" x 3 ¼"); 144pp; gilt stamped maroon cloth over board, gilt stamped fillet encloses a decorative swirl of leaves and flowers surrounding the title on the front, rear board is blind stamped; gilt stamped lettering on spine; all edges gilt; pale pink eps; wood-engraved fp + 8 additional illustrated plates; lightly sunned, light wear to head of spine; very good plus. OCLC locates only 2 copies one at Univ. Southern Florida and one at Emory Univ. Library. The story of a boy named Ulrich who is the caregiver of his ill foster mother. The story traces the hardship of his life as his mother dies and leaves him to fend for himself. The story has a happy ending with the boy reuniting with his loving grandfather. There are moral lessons learned along the way.
