First edition; 7 1/2 x 5; pp. [7], 2-34; light-yellow wraps, printed in black and decorated with a small vignette; illustrated with numerous monochrome photographs and tables; a few spots to wraps and endpapers, else minor wear; in about very good condition.Published fifty-two years after its founding, the book gave a glimpse into the history of the Imperial Mint, also known as the Japan Mint - the government agency responsible for the supply of coins and medals and the analysis, testing and certification of metals. Established in 1871, it would play a key role in modernizing Japan's currency system. It included chapters on the manufacturing of coins and the disposal of demonetised ones, on specialized equipment, etc.
