This is a rare early book of bylaws from a New York Lodge of the world's largest African American fraternal organization, the Improved, Benevolent, Protective Order of Elks of the World (IBPOEW).

This book contains the articles pertaining to meetings, roles of the “Exalted Ruler,” secretary and treasurer, along with rules and penalties for transgressions. It covers dues, initiation and memberships, as well as expenses to be paid to members' widows in case of death. The members of the “committee on by-laws” and “printing committee” are listed.

A rare book of bylaws for a Black fraternal group. Not found in OCLC.
