Vera Caspary (1899-1987) was an American writer of novels, plays, screenplays and short stories. Her best-known novel, Laura, was made into a successful movie of the same name. Though generally classified as a mystery novelist, Caspary felt uncomfortable with classifying herself in the genre. Caspary first wrote the story as a 1939 play titled Ring Twice for Lora before adapting the play into the novel which debuted in 1943. (Wikipedia)

Headshot of Caspary used to publicize the 1951 United Artists film Three Husbands, for which she wrote.
