Shelly Manne was a well-known jazz drummer, closely associated with the West Coast jazz movement, performing in tightly arranged compositions in what was a "cool" style, as in his 1953 album The West Coast Sound for which he commissioned several original compositions. Manne is shown during an appearance in a Jazz at the Philharmonic concert.
