Woodcut royal coat-of-arms to title. 60 pp. 12mo (172 x 103 mm.), 20th-cent. half-green morocco over marbled boards (by Blanchetière), spine ornately gilt, t.e.g, with cont. decorative wrappers bound-in. Paris: l’Imprimerie des Bâtimens du Roi & de l’Académie Royale de Peinture, 1789.


Scarce 18th-century Salon livret; WorldCat records only three examples in North America. Ca. 117 artists participated and presented a total of 335 works. The artists present for this year’s Salon included Rameau, Vallayer-Coster (pp. 13-14), Vigée-Lebrun (pp. 19-20), Labille Guiard, David, Houdon, Moitte, Saint-Aubin, etc. An exquisitely bound copy, in fine condition.
