By Applegreen, John
Chicago: The Hotel Monthly, 1909. Third Edition. Very Good. Third edition of the first professional pocket-sized reference for mixology. Bound in publisher's flexible leather wraps, single ruled in blind and stamped in gilt on the front cover; all edges green with green endpapers. Very Good with wear, darkening and droplet stains to covers, fading to green edges. Foxing to endsheets with small nick to front free endpaper at edge; uneven toning to contents some marginal foxing. John Applegreen's handy reference intended for professional bartenders in hotel and catering services. Applegreen worked as head bartender for H. M. Kinsley’s, Chicago’s top restaurant in the 1890s before penning this reference guide. A no-nonsense guide with the author proclaiming strict rules and instructions in the introduction. Sections are divided by type of cocktail for instance, "Fizzies" and even no-alcohol "Temperance Drinks" that includes a basic recipe for lemonade; scarce in any edition.
