Autograph Letter Signed

1901. framed. near fine. Brief autograph letter signed "I. Zangwill" to an unnamed correspondent; 7 lines on his personal letterhead, "...I know nothing about the matter to which you refer and nobody has any authority to use my name..." 4 1/2 x 5 inches, attractively framed together with a fine portrait of Zangwill in his study. Outer measure, 13 x 17 inches. April 3, 1901. Very good.

Israel Zangwill was a British author at the forefront of Zionism during the 19th century, and was a close associate of Theodor Herzl. He later rejected the search for a Jewish homeland in Palestine and became the prime thinker behind the territorial movement.
