New York: August 1, 1854. Very good.. [1]p., with integral address leaf. Original mailing folds, a few small chips, light foxing, some separation along one fold line of address leaf. A rare fundraising and informational circular issued from the "Rooms of the American Missionary Association" in the summer of 1854, and signed in type by the corresponding secretaries George Whipple and S.S. Jocelyn. The letter opens with the requisite requests for contributions, then details the organization's needs in light of upcoming missionary activities and demands from the organization in Africa, Jamaica, "the slave States," "the situation of Kansas and Nebraska," and "Home Missionaries in the West." Among other specific groups, the letter exhorts "Christian females who labor with us in the gospel" to raise $30 "to make your pastor, or some other esteemed Christian friend, a Life Member of the Association." This copy of the circular was addressed to Dana Bailey of Townsville, Vermont.
