Publisher's decorative brown cloth designed by Margaret Armstrong, with moonlight decoration to front board, and gilt lettering to front board and spine. Near fine, with a touch of soiling to front board, light rubbing to spine ends and board corners, small tear to bottom of p. 3, and original tissue guard present with frontispiece. Overall, an attractive copy, with clean and sharp plates. John Philip Sousa (1854 - 1932) was an American conductor and composer who wrote some of the most enduring patriotic marches in American history. Two of his most recognizable pieces are "The Stars and Stripes Forever," which is the national march of the United States, and "Semper Fidelis," the official march of the United States Marine Corps. In addition to music, Sousa wrote three fictional works: The Fifth String (1902), Pipetown Sandy, and The Transit of Venus (1920).
