Thy lip far sweeter than the rose" -- Finely produced Valentine with pith paper, water color, scraps, printed poem mimicking ink manuscript

England, 1860. Very good. Light toning, scraps beginning to loosen. Toning and a couple tiny nicks to pith paper. Large short tear to fold.. A finely produced valentine, made from a wove paper bifolium (9" by 7.5") embossed with a leafy garland and lyre motif. Inside the center cut-out is a scrap of pith paper which has been painted with delicate watercolor leaves surrounding a rose scrap with a couple of extra leaf scraps. Around the center are four silver embossed Victorian scraps with a poem printed in blue ink to mimic ink manuscript, with blue flourishes around the scraps. The poem reads, "Thy lip far sweeter than the rose Thy neck than Lilies oh! more fair How faithful I would be to thee my dearest Valentine. The butterfly might well suppose The treasured honey there Oh would it were my lot to be A favourite of thine." Includes blind stamp of previous owner to second leaf.
