Original gray cloth, lettered on front cover and spine. Inscribed by one of the editors on front flyleaf: "Compliments of Lemuel R. Hopton." This is the first volume of the Yale Epitome, which collects and publishes "some of the best articles from Yale's current literature... a condensed annual of all the Yale student publications so as to show to those interested how little is deserved the adverse criticisms that have been showered by the press upon the literary interest and ability of the University." It includes contributions to The Yale Literary Magazine, The Yale Courant, The Yale Record, The Yale Daily News, The Yale Law Journal, The Yale Scientific Monthly, and The Yale Medical Journal.
