St. John Perse (b. 1887) was the pen name on French poet and diplomat Marie Ren, Auguste Alexis Saint-L,ger. A career French diplomat, he was dismissed in 1933, he fled to the US in 1940 and became an advisor to FDR. His writings were burned by the Vichey government. His long poem Anabase (1924) was translated by T. S. Eliot and he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1960. (Inventory #: 15036)
