Limited to 400 numbered copies signed by Maya Angelou and illustrator John Biggers, this being number 109. Folio (22 x 17 1/4 inches; 560 x 440 mm). With five lithographs by John Biggers. Publisher's prospectus laid in.
Full red Japanese linen. Front board lettered in black. Poem is printed on handmade paper by H.M.P. Mill and the lithographs are pm mould-made Arches paper. Housed in a full red morocco clamshell. Fine.
"Our Grandmothers is not a very long poem- little more than a hundred lines- but its power is comparable to that of William Blake, its language is a forthright as Henry Miller's or William Burroughs' and as colloquial as Francois Villon's, its universality is Whitmanseque, and in its is the emotional history of a race that has worked miracles of faith, determination and progress... [Angelou] asked that Our Grandmothers be illustrated by her favorite artist, John T. Biggers, an internationally acclaimed muralist and printmaker." (From the Prospectus).
